Men's Volleyball returned to form with a 3-0 victory over Saint Mary - Woods

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Men's Volleyball returned home to welcome Saint Mary of the Woods and started a new sweep streak with a 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-13, 25-11). It was all Golden Eagles in this one as they took control early and often in every set. Hubert Sliwinski led the way for Cornerstone with 8 kills as the Golden Eagles totaled 11 service aces. Men's Volleyball moves to 8-0 (4-0) on the season as they have a rematch with Saint Mary tomorrow at 1 p.m.
 
Game Recap – Cornerstone – 3 Saint Mary-Woods 0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-11)
 
  • Set One
    • The Golden Eagles opened the game with back-to-back blocks from Andrew Galanes and Hubert Sliwinski.
    • A kill from David Galanes and Hubert Sliwinski gave Cornerstone an early 6-2 lead.
    • Saint Mary struggled to serve and that helped Cornerstone grow their lead 13-7 in the first set.
    • A service ace from Kyi Jagorin has the Golden Eagles inching closer to a first set victory, leading 18-11.
    • Landon Waltz gets the kill and Saint Mary follows with an error as the Golden Eagles lead 23-15.
    • Cornerstone finishes the first set with an ace from Patrick Voloch to win 25-16.
  • Set Two
    • Hubert Sliwinski uses back-to-back kills and Patrick Voloch gets a service ace to open the set on a 3-1 run.
    • Saint Mary would respond with a 5-2 run to take their first lead of the match 6-5 after a block on their side.
    • A 4-0 run by the Golden Eagles saw them retake the lead 9-6 after a kill from Patrick Voloch.
    • A kill from Ernest Broaster makes it a 14-9 match.
    • Another service error from Saint Mary and a kill from David Galanes gave Cornerstone a 17-11 lead.
    • A big 5-0 run by the Golden Eagles highlighted by three kills and a service ace gave Cornerstone a 22-12 lead that forced Saint Mary to call a timeout.
    • Ernest Broaster put the finishing touches on the second set with a loud kill to give Cornerstone the 25-13 set two victory.
  • Set Three
    • Cornerstone and Saint Mary opened up the third set trading points before back-to-back Josiah Reif service aces gave the Golden Eagles a 6-4 lead.
    • A 5-0 run by the Golden Eagles gave them a 12-7 lead after a couple kills from Hubert Sliwinski and a service ace from Joshua Beaumont.
    • After a Saint Mary point, Cornerstone used another 5-0 run to take a 17-8 lead after a monster kill from Ernest Broaster.
    • Ernest Broaster gets the service ace and Jackson Bush gets the tip kill to give Cornerstone a 21-9 lead late in the third set.
    • The Golden Eagles would finish the third set 25-11 on a block from Patrick Voloch and Ethan Walker.
