SHEPHERD, Mich. – First year Head Coach
Jason Schalk and the Golden Eagles opened their 2-23 season up at the Central Michigan Jeff Drenth Memorial Classic with a pair of 5,000m races on the men's and women's side. Both teams finished fourth overall as CU ramps up for more competitions this fall. Cornerstone will compete next at the Wayne State Warrior Classic in two weeks' time.
Men's Results
The men opened their season with a rare 5k despite the NAIA competitions being 8k's. Cornerstone was led by four athletes who had sub 16 times in
Jamin Thompson,
Isaiah Jacobs,
Andy Adams, and freshman
Ethan Krampe.
The men finished fourth overall in the event and best among NAIA teams in competition with a total team time of 1:19:17.

Women's Results
Despite the NAIA moving to a 6k in 2023, Cornerstone opened the year with a 5k and saw some solid starts to the year from a young group. CU was led by fifth-year senior
Haley Nieuwkoop who has returned from injury and recorded a mark of 18:21. She came just 16 seconds off her career best that places her seventh all-time in CU program history.

Jacie Remtema was another standout, recording a time of 19:30 in her debut as a Golden Eagle to finish third among CU athletes. Cornerstone overall took fourth at the event with a total team time of 1:39:07.
