Nyp powers Men’s Basketball to 79-57 road victory at Siena Heights

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Golden Eagles hit more than 10 threes for the first time since December 10, 2022, as Carter Nyp hit six of the team's 12 for 24 points in a dominant 79-57 road victory over Siena Heights. Cornerstone moves to 16-10, 10-8 WHAC with two regular season games remaining in the 2022-23 year. CU's next game will be at Concordia on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Concordia Fieldhouse. 

Game Highlights:
 
First Half:
  • The Golden Eagles struck first after a steal from Luke Rowlinson led to a Carter Nyp layup. 
  • Carter Nyp continued his hot start with a three to increase the Golden Eagle lead to 7-2 with 17:23 to play in the first half. 
  • Connor Dykema later checked in and made an immediate impact on the offensive end to increase the CU lead. He scored two consecutive layups before a timeout with Cornerstone on top 15-6. 
  • Connor Dykema added one more layup after the timeout before Siena Heights finally got their offense going with a 5-0 run that brought their deficit to just six 17-11.  
  • The inside game continued for CU. Mason Brooks and Cory Ainsworth each hit layups to put Cornerstone on top by double-figures for the first time on the day. 
  • Siena would cut the deficit to under 10 with a 4-0 run. The red-hot Carter Nyp would quickly respond with eight straight points for the Golden Eagles though to give CU their largest lead of the day at 31-15 with 5:26 to play in the half. 
  • Despite SHU getting some buckets of their own, Carter Nyp hit his third consecutive three to record to score 11 consecutive Golden Eagle points. 
  • SHU began to chip away in the final four minutes of the first half. They hit a pair of threes and got to the line to get within seven, 36-29 with 1:48 to play in the period. 
  • Trent Summerfield hit a three in the final minute of the half to give Cornerstone the 39-29 halftime advantage. 
Second Half:
  • Luke Rowlinson started the second half with a bang, hitting two threes and scoring eight straight CU points in an 8-2 run to put the Golden Eagles back up by 16, 47-31. 
  • Trent Summerfield added a three of his own to bring the run to 11-2 and give CU the 50-31 advantage with 17:25 to play. 
  • It was all three balls in the second half as Carter Nyp continued to shine, hitting two more with the lead continuing to increase. CU led 56-33 with 14:11 to play. 
  • Every time SHU got back within 20, Cornerstone had an answer. Trent Summerfield added three-pointer number 11 on the day for the Golden Eagles with 8:13 to play to put CU on top 65-41. 
  • Eli Steffen joined the three-point parade with five minutes to go to make it 74-47. 
  • Cornerstone was able to get some additional players in as Blake Stewart, Tre Seydel, and Bryce Nyboer all got in during the 79-57 Wednesday night victory. 
 
By the Numbers 
12-6 – Cornerstone doubled-up the Saints on three-point buckets with 12. Carter Nyp hit six of the 12. 
12/11 – Cory Ainsworth recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. 
9 – Eli Steffen led the team with nine assists. 
 
What's Next? 
Cornerstone continues the road trip at Concordia on Saturday at 3 p.m.
