Men's Volleyball opens the Cornerstone Tri-Match with a 3-0 sweep of Olivet Nazarene

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Men's Volleyball opened the Cornerstone Tri-Match with a 3-0 sweep of Olivet Nazarene. The Golden Eagles are off to their best start of the season and doing it in style as they have swept every opponent they have faced. Ernest Broaster led the way for the Golden Eagles with a game high 16 kills as Patrick Voloch had 31 assists. Cornerstone will be right back in action tomorrow morning as they will take on Campbellsville at 10 a.m.

First Set
  • Olivet Nazarene opened the match on 3-0 run thanks to three straight attacking errors from the Golden Eagles.
  • The Golden Eagles responded nicely going on an 8-2 run that forced Olivet to take one of their timeouts thanks to a service ace from Kyi Jagorin.
  • Olivet Nazarene responded nicely, going on a little run to tie the match 10-10 after a kill.
  • Ernest Broaster and Hubert Sliwinski swing back-to-back kills for the Golden Eagles as they extend their lead 16-13.
  • After a service ace from Kyi Jagorin, Olivet is forced to use their final timeout as the Golden Eagles lead 20-14.
  • The Golden Eagles finish off the first set winning 25-16 thanks to kills from Joshua Beaumont and Ernest Broaster.
 
Second Set
  • Cornerstone and Olivet battled to open the second set with the Tigers having a slight advantage 5-3.
  • Cornerstone ties the match 7-7 after a kill from Joshua Beaumont.
  • The Tigers force Cornerstone to use one of their timeouts as they used a 4-0 run to take an 11-7 lead.
  • The Golden Eagles responded nicely out of the timeout, going on a 7-2 run to force Olivet to use a timeout as Cornerstone now leads 14-13 after a few errors from the Tigers.
  • A kill from David Galanes puts the Golden Eagles up 19-16 late in the second set.
  • Ernest Broaster hammers one down for Cornerstone as they have a second set victory in sight as they lead 23-18.
  • The Golden Eagles win the second set 25-20 thanks to an Ernest Broaster kill and an Olivet Nazarene service error.
 
Third Set
  • Just like the second set, Cornerstone and Olivet opened the third set trading points back-and-forth as it is tied 4-4.
  • Cornerstone then used a 5-1 run to force Olivet to call a timeout thanks to multiple kills from David Galanes.
  • Cornerstone continues to hold the lead over the Tigers 13-10 after a kill from Ernest Broaster.
  • After another service error from the Tigers, Cornerstone is just six points away from a victory. They lead 19-15 late in the third.
  • The Golden Eagles win the final set 25-19 thanks to kills from Ernest Broaster and Andrew Galanes.
 
By the Numbers:
31 – Patrick Voloch had a game high 31 assists
16 – Ernest Broaster led the way with 16 kills
7 – Cornerstone recorded seven service aces for the game.

What's Next?
Volleyball will be right back in action tomorrow morning, Friday, February 17 as they take on Campbellsville at 10 a.m.
