The tough week of home play continues for the young Golden Eagles vs. (22) Indiana Tech on Friday at 7 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 0 #RV Aquinas – 3 (19-25, 17-25, 20-25)
Set One:
- After Aquinas scored the first point of the match, Cornerstone rattled off three straight in front of a great crowd inside Mol Arena. Emmalee Murphy recorded a kill in her return to the floor and Macy Ward added an ace.
- An attack error by the Saints put CU up by four early, 7-3.
- AQ responded with a 9-2 run, highlighted by three consecutive service aces from CeCe Pelak to take the lead 12-9.
- Kills from Jada Thomas and Emmalee Murphy would cut the CU deficit back to one, but it would be short lived as another big Saints run of 8-3 gave them command of the set.
- A Jada Thomas kill would help Cornerstone survive the first set point, but Abbi Perkins would put the ball away on the second effort to take set one 25-19.
Set Two:
- Aquinas got off to the good start in set two, using a big block with their height at the net to score the first two points.
- Emmalee Murphy recorded two kills to tie the set up quickly at 3-3.
- Kylie Barron got involved later in the set with a massive solo block to put Cornerstone on top 6-4.
- After trading a few points and the set sitting tied at 10, Aquinas would find a 4-0 run to force a Cornerstone timeout. Lydia Harper recorded a service ace and Jenna Lee recorded a kill to put the Saints up 14-10.
- The timeout could not stop the Lydia Harper serve as the Saints scored five more in a row to cap off a 9-0 run and lead 19-10.
- The Saints cruised the rest of the way and take set two 25-17 on a tip kill from Jenna Lee.
Set Three:
- An early kill from Hanna Giere in set three put Cornerstone on top 3-2.
- Aquinas immidately responded once again using the block to spark things to take a 5-3 advantage.
- Cornerstone did not let set three get away though, taking a 14-13 lead after a Kylie Barron kill and an Abbi Perkins attack error forcing a Saints timeout.
- After the timeout, AQ rattled off three straight points with an Abbi Perkins service ace and a block from Michelle Dorney.
- Another 3-0 run later in the set gave the Saints their largest lead of four.
- Blocks would result in the victory for Aquinas as they scored three straight to end set three and take it 25-20 for the sweep.
