GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles met (10) Lourdes for the second time this season and came closer than they ever have, but fell short in a straight set loss to the Gray Wolves. Cornerstone is now 5-9, 1-6 WHAC on the year as they have yet another busy week ahead with a Tuesday WHAC contest vs. Goshen and a Thursday non-conference game against Olivet College both at 7 p.m. next week.
Game Recap – (10) Lourdes – 3 Cornerstone – 0 (25-19, 27-25, 28-26)
- Max Hernandez recorded two kills and a service ace to score three of the Golden Eagles first four points of set one as they trailed 6-4.
- CU later went on a 4-0 run with two kills and a block from David Galanes to take their first lead, 11-9.
- Joshua Beaumont recorded a kill to go up 15-13, but Lourdes responded to score four of the next five points.
- Jeff Lam powered Lourdes to a 4-1 run to end set one, and win 25-19.
- Cornerstone got off to a strong start in set two, using a 4-0 run that saw two kills from Max Hernandez to go on top, 6-3.
- A big block from David Galanes and Hubert Sliwinski later but CU on top 12-8.
- A Gray Wolves service ace gave them the lead 15-14.
- Cornerstone faced set point, 24-23 but a block from Joshua Beaumont and Max Hernandez forced extra volleyball.
- CU later faced two more set points, and fell after a Gabriel Vianna service ace, 27-25.
- Neither team led by more than two early in set three, until Lourdes scored four straight to go on top 13-10.
- Lourdes maintained the three-point edge to 23-20.
- A huge Alex Hekman service ace helped spark a CU 3-0 run to tie things at 23.
- Cornerstone again forced extra volleyball and at match point 26-25, Max Hernandez and Hubert Sliwinski combined for a big block to stay alive.
- Lourdes recorded a block of their own later to win the match as the ball grazed off the shoulder of Brunno Peres as LU took set three 28-26.
By the Numbers
24 – The defending WHAC Player of the Year Jeff Lam led all players with 24 kills and a .467 hitting percentage.

Patrick Voloch was all over the floor recording another double-double with 35 assists and 12 digs to lead the team in both categories.

Max Hernandez had a team high 12 kills in the match.
What's Next?
Cornerstone will conclude a three-game home stand next week vs. Goshen and vs. Olivet College next week Tuesday and Thursday.
