MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Golden Eagles wrapped up their road trip out East with a pair of games on Saturday, facing off against MVNU and Carlow. Mount Vernon handed Cornerstone a 3-0 loss for the third time this season. In the nightcap match against Carlow, the Golden Eagles dominated the Celtics and won 3-0, marking the first victory in the history of the program. The split on the day brings Cornerstone's record to 1-14 heading into Wednesday evening's match at Judson.
Game 1: Cornerstone 0 – Mount Vernon Nazarene 3 (14-25, 22-25, 17-25)
- Logan Chagdes had two kills in the early goings of the first set
- A 7-0 run in favor of MVNU gave the Cougars a 15-4 advantage in the first set before closing it out 25-14.
- The Cougars jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the second set.
- Cornerstone worked their way back into the game, making the deficit just one at 23-22 before MVNU sealed it with the final two points.
- The Golden Eagles had the advantage in the early parts of the third set as three consecutive attack errors gave CU a 6-3 lead.
- Mount Vernon quickly overcame the deficit en route to a 25-17 decision in the third set.
Game 2: Cornerstone 3 – Carlow 0 (25-6, 25-14, 25-9)
- Cornerstone came out in dominant fashion against Carlow, who is also a first year program, scoring the first 14 points of the first set.
- Seth Vanderkooi ended the first set with back-to-back points, first with a kill then with a service ace.
- A service ace from Dellen Veldhouse gave CU a 13-6 lead in the second set.
- Joshua Richline tallied his fourth kill of the set to boost CU's lead to 24-12 before the Golden Eagles eventually won 25-14 thanks to a service error.
- After Carlow scored the first two points, Cornerstone rattled off seven straight points to take a 7-2.
- The Golden Eagles later went on a 10-0 stretch to lead 21-6.
- Cornerstone sealed the program's first victory by closing out the third and final set on top 25-9.
