GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Senior outside hitter
Bailey Cummings surpasses 1000 career kills as Cornerstone sweeps Siena Heights 25-11, 25-22, 26-24 on Friday evening to improve to 16-2, 12-1 WHAC on the year. Cornerstone has now swept 11 teams this year, including four straight. The team will continue the homestand vs. Indiana Tech tomorrow at 1 p.m. back inside Mol Arena.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Siena Heights – 0 (25-11, 25-22, 26-24)
- A Kayla Clark service ace and block from Alexis Angus and Jackie Stanko sparked a 4-0 run to start the set one for CU.
- Cornerstone forced the Saints to take both of their timeouts early, holding a 13-5 lead after a kill from Brooke Nicholson and an attack error from Siena Heights.
- Kayla Clark tallied back-to-back service aces to make it 20-7. Cornerstone went on to win set one 25-11 with a kill from Olivia Keelean.
- The two teams traded points early in set two as the largest CU lead was just three at 9-6 after a SHU error.
- Back-to-back service aces from Aubrey Bates gave Siena Heights the lead at 11-10 and forced a CU timeout.
- After the two teams traded points, a block from Brooke Nicholson and Jackie Stanko gave Cornerstone the two-point edge, 17-15.
- An Alexis Angus kill capped off a 3-0 run that Gave the Golden Eagles a 22-18 lead. Siena Heights responded with a 4-1 run to force CU into a timeout leading 23-22.
- After the timeout, CU scored the final two points with a Jackie Stanko kill and Alexis Angus/Olivia Keelean block to win set two 25-22.
- Bailey Cummings recorded her 1,000th career kill early in set three as the Golden Eagles led by as many as five.
- Siena Heights responded to go on top 18-14 with a Kill from Janel Ruhlman to lead 18-14.
- After trailing 23-18, Cornerstone stormed all the way back to score six straight points and regain the lead 24-23 with a Bailey Cummings kill.
- After a service error tied things at 24, Cornerstone completed the comeback with a kill from Brooke Nicholson and Bailey Cummings to win set three 26-24.
