Women’s Volleyball sweeps Lourdes in the WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After a bit of a slow start, Cornerstone recovered to cruise to a 3-0 sweep of Lourdes in the WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal. Cornerstone improves their season record to 23-13 and their quest for NAIA Nationals continues as they will take on the three seed Indiana Tech on Friday, November 12. The semifinals and finals will be played at the WHAC Regular Season Champion Madonna. 

Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Lourdes - 0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-18)
  • The energy came through the building early, as Kylie Barron and Olivia Keelean combined for a block to tie set one 3-3.
  • Lourdes responded with a 5-0 run, refusing to let the ball hit the floor to take an 11-6 advantage and force Cornerstone into a timeout. 
  • The nation's leading ace getter helped CU respond with a 4-0 run that saw a service ace to put the Golden Eagles on top 13-12. 
  • After a Lourdes timeout, the Gray Wolves responded with a 5-0 run to go on top 17-13. 
  • Trailing 20-16, Cornerstone stormed all the way back, using a huge block from Rylie Walters and Kaylee Dykema as part of a 26-24 set one win. 
  • The two sides traded points early, but Cornerstone was able to muster up a 3-0 run capped off by a Rylie Walters kill to lead 10-7 in set two. 
  • Rylie Walters continued to dominate, increasing the CU lead to six with a kill that forced Lourdes into a timeout, 16-10. 
  • Despite the Gray Wolves best effort to come back in set two, it was too little too late as CU won 25-18 on a Kathryn Detweiler kill. 
  • Olivia Keelean and Kathryn Detweiler combined for a pair of early kills in set three to help CU to a 4-0 run and take a 6-2 advantage. 
  • A bet set by Lourdes led to the first timeout of set three, as Cornerstone led 16-11. 
  • After leading by seven, LU went on a 5-1 run to cut the deficit to just three and force CU into a timeout, 19-16. 
  • A pair of beautiful roll kills from Rylie Walters found the space and put Cornerstone on top 21-18. 
  • Cornerstone secured the match in straight sets on a Kaylee Dykema kill to win set three 25-18. 
 
By the Numbers
.324/.217 – Cornerstone hit .324 in set two and .217 on the match. 
29 – Rylie Walters (15) and Olivia Keelean (14) combined for 29 of the teams 52 kills tonight. 
38 – Aubrey Lenz recorded 38 assists to increase her season total to 1,116. 
 
What's Next?
Cornerstone will head to the top seed Madonna for the remainder of the WHAC Tournament this weekend. They will compete in the WHAC Tournament Semifinal on Friday, November 12 against the three seed Indiana Tech who swept Concordia in the opening round. Match time to be announced by Madonna later.
