GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles played a pair of tough matches against tough competition, falling short in both matches to drop to 2-4 on the year. CU started the day with a five-set loss to IU-Kokomo falling 21-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-18, 13-15. In the second match, Cornerstone faced no. 24 Marian for the second time already this season and fell 14-25, 23-25, 25-12, 18-25. Action will pick back up tomorrow for CU with two more matches at 1 p.m. & 3 p.m. vs. Thomas More and Indiana Wesleyan.
Game One – IU-Kokomo – 3 Cornerstone – 2 (21-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-18, 13-15)
- Cornerstone struggled out of the gate as the Cougars went on a 10-4 run to start the match, highlighted by three consecutive kills that led to six straight points.
- CU made a response later in the set going on a 6-1 run that was capped off by an Olivia Keelean kill, but it would not be enough as they fell 21-25 in set one.
- Once again the Golden Eagles fell behind early in set two, but strong play from Bailey Cummings and Riley Walters helped CU edge out IU-K 25-23 in set two.
- Neither team got much of an edge in set three, but IU-Kokomo went on to win it 25-21 after a Macee Rudy kill ended it.
- Cornerstone would not go down without a fight, once again responding in set four with a 7-0 run to end it again thanks to strong play from Rylie Walters to force the match to a fifth.
- In the fifth the Cougars got out to a 5-2 lead before the Golden Eagles responded to take a 6-5 lead of their own.
- A 7-0 run by IU-Kokomo would doom the Golden Eagles however as they fell 15-13 in set five.
Game Two – Marian – 3 Cornerstone – 1 (14-25, 23-25, 25-12, 18-25)
- Cornerstone got off to another sluggish first set start falling 14-25 and hitting -.095 as a team.
- CU played much stronger in the second set, taking a 15-13 lead behind a kill from Oliva Keelean.
- Nationally ranked Marian responded with a 5-1 run that the Golden Eagles were unable to recover from as a service error ended the set with a loss at 23-25.
- The Golden Eagles flipped the script in set three with their best play of the day, hitting .375 and recording 14 kills to keep the match going with a 25-12 win.
- Marian found their stride again in the fourth, winning 25-18 after an attack error by Olivia Keelean ended the match.

- Alexis Angus recorded a career high 18 kills in the first match vs. IU-Kokomo and had a team high 26 on the day.
- Freshman Riley Walters came on the seen in match one and recorded seven crucial kills.
- Kayla Clark 85 assists on the day, 46 in match one and 39 in match two.
- Patsy Morris was a digging machine, with 43 in match one and 24 in set two to lead the Golden Eagles.

Cornerstone will continue the AQ/CU Invitational tomorrow with matches at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. vs. Thomas More and Indiana Wesleyan.
