ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles earned their first road WHAC victory with a 3-0 sweep of winless Rochester University. Cornerstone fought off a battle from the Warriors but were able to hold on to win in straight sets 25-21, 25-22, 25-22. CU now sits at .500 on the year with a 7-7 record while being 4-2 in conference play as they get set to head to Southfield tomorrow to take on receiving votes Lawrence Tech at 11 a.m.
Game Recap – CU – RU – 0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-22)
- Cornerstone doubled up Rochester's score early in set one at 10-5 that was capped off by a kill from Brooke Nicholson.
- Rochester later went on a 7-0 run to take a 19-18 lead on a kill from Faith Burton.
- A pair of kills from Olivia Keelean helped the Golden Eagles hold on in set one to win 25-21.
- In set two, neither team could get an edge early as halfway through the set the largest lead on either side was just two points.
- The set remained close, but Cornerstone was able to pull away at the end with three consecutive points that included kills from Rylie Walters and Jackie Stanko to win the set 25-22.
- The Golden Eagles dominated set three early getting out to an early 10-3 lead behind three kills from Jackie Stanko.
- Rochester once again responded with a 5-0 run to take a 17-16 lead in set three.
- The Golden Eagles would score six of the last nine points to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-0 to improve to 4-2 in WHAC play.
