SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Golden Eagles were able to win their second straight road match, defeating Lourdes 3-1 in Sylvania to earn a season sweep and move to 13-16, 10-8 WHAC overall. The win, keeps CU in sixth in the conference standings with just two regular season games remaining. Cornerstone will travel to Adrian tomorrow to take on Siena Heights for a 1 p.m. match to close out the weekend.
Game Recap – CU – 3 LU – 1 (25-20, 15-25, 25-17, 25-20)
- After a slow start in set one, Cornerstone saw an 8-1 run that was capped off by an Olivia Keelean service ace to take a 12-8 lead.
- Back-to-back kills from Bailey Cummings helped CU close out set one with a win 25-20.
- Set two was the only blemish for CU as they fell behind 11-3 and eventually fell 25-15.
- Cornerstone responded well though on the road as the two teams fought back in fourth in set three to tie things at 11 all.
- CU then went on a 9-0 eruption highlighted by a pair of kills from Alexis Angus and a pair of service aces from Lindsay Barry.
- Alexis Angus recorded a kill to win set three 25-17 and take a 2-1 lead.
- Lindsay Barry continued her service ace prowess in set four, helping CU get out to a 5-1 lead with yet another ace.
- Lourdes responded with a big run to take an 11-8 lead.
- Cornerstone responded with a run of their own and then closed the set out with a Brooke Nicholson kill and a pair of Lourdes attacking errors to win set four 25-20, and the match 3-1.
By the Numbers
- Alexis Angus led the team with 15 kills.
- CU hit .132 on the match with a set best .302 in set one.
- Alexis Angus also led the team with five blocks.
- Kayla Clark recorded a team high 41 assists.
What's Next?
Cornerstone will play another road match tomorrow at Siena Heights, who has been hot of late winning five straight matches. Match will begin at 1 p.m. at the SHU Fieldhouse.
