LIVONIA, Mich. – In a battle of the last two unbeaten teams in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, the host Crusaders of Madonna used a tight set one win to propel them to a 3-1 victory over No. 14 Cornerstone. The loss is the first league setback for CU in their last 19 matches as they are now 13-6 overall and 6-1 in the WHAC. Cornerstone will remain on the east side of the state tomorrow when they take on UM-Dearborn at 1 p.m.

Cornerstone struggled from the outset as the Crusaders jumped out to a 7-1 lead and eventually led 14-5 but the Golden Eagles fought back to make it interesting down the stretch. Down 18-12, CU used a 7-0 run to take a 19-18 lead as
Kendra Zwart had two blocks and two kills during the spurt. MU recovered though and went on to win the opener 27-25.
CU came out on fire in the second set and built as big of an eight points lead (19-11) but the Crusaders fought back to within 24-21 only to see the Golden Eagles close it out with a Zwart kill to even the match at one set a piece.
Madonna then dominated the third set, winning 25-15 and closed out CU in the fourth with a tight 25-21 win.
