Comeback at Siena Heights ignites Volleyball to two wins

ADRIAN, Mich. – Cornerstone fell behind 2-0 at Siena Heights but then rallied for a thrilling 5-set win to ignite them to a pair of wins on Saturday which also included a 3-1 triumph at Rochester. The pair of victories lift the Golden Eagles to 29-7 on the year as they have now won 19 consecutive matches overall. CU will conclude the regular season on Wednesday at Concordia and a win clinches at least a share of their first WHAC title since 2004.

Match 1 – Cornerstone 3, Siena Heights 2 – (22-25, 18-25, 26-24, 25-12, 15-13)
Coming off a big upset win of No. 9 Lourdes on Wednesday, the Golden Eagles struggled to get things going on the road at Siena Heights. The host Saints took big leads in each of the first two sets and posted 25-22 and 25-18 wins to take a commanding 2-0 lead.

The Saints then took command in the third and had two match points at 24-22 and 24-23 but CU responded with back to back kills from Heather Green and Ellie Van Laar to tie it and then finished off the comeback with a Maria Ma ace and Kenzie Engelsma kill to win 26-24. The fourth set was all Cornerstone as they built as large a lead as 14 (23-9) before winning 25-12.

Set five was back and forth and saw SHU build a 10-8 lead but CU responded with a 4-0 run to take a 12-10 lead and they finished off the 5-set comeback with kills from Kendra Zwart and Ellie Van Laar to win 15-13.

Match 2 – Cornerstone 3, Rochester 1 (20-25, 25-13, 25-15, 25-13)

No official stats were provided from the host Rochester College Warriors. Cornerstone fell in the opener, but responded with three sounding wins to complete their 19th straight win overall.
