Men’s Basketball runs away with their third consecutive victory

Lansing, Mich. – Men's Basketball took another large step forward with their 79-56 victory over the Cougars on the road. The Golden Eagles defeated Cleary earlier this season in similar fashion as both games fell in large favor to Cornerstone. Mason Brooks led the way in the game with 19 points as Luke Rowlinson was right behind him with 18 points of his own. The two combined for eight three-point buckets in the game. Connor Dykema cruised once again with a smooth 12-point performance to secure the victory. The Golden Eagles move to 18-8 (14-4) on the year as they return home for a battle against Aquinas on Wednesday, February 19 at 7:30 p.m.

First Half
  • Connor Dykema kicked off the game with back-to-back strong layups at the rim for the Golden Eagles. 
  • Blake Stewart continued to shine through his mid-range game with multiple jumpers in the opening first five minutes as Cornerstone led 8-5. 
  • Connor Dykema continued to bully down low with his third bucket of the game that gave Cornerstone a 10-7 lead. 
  • Mason Brooks found his stroke early in this contest with a three pointer for the Golden Eagles that brought the score to 13-7. 
  • Jack Joldersma added to the Cornerstone lead with three more points to double the Cleary points at 16-8. 
  • Andy Mora and Luke Rowlinson added two more baskets for the away squad as they led by eight at the eight-minute mark. 
  • Cleary continued to respond but baskets from Blake Stewart and Jack Joldersma kept the Cornerstone lead up to eight. 
  • Luke Rowlinson gave the Golden Eagles their largest lead of the game with a solo five point run with three minutes left to play in the first half. 
  • The Cougars responded with their own five point run to cut the Cornerstone lead down to six points. 
  • Jack Joldersma extended the lead once again as they led 31-23 with two minutes left on the clock.
  • Connor Dykema and Luke Rowlinson closed out the half with points for Cornerstone as they headed into the locker room with a 35-28 advantage.  
Second Half
  • The second half started well for Luke Rowlinson as he drained his first shot from behind the arc to bring the Cornerstone lead to double digits to start off the second period. 
  • Connor Dykema continued to get it done inside the paint with two more buckets for the Golden Eagles. 
  • Mason Brooks added another triple for the Golden Eagles at the 17-minute mark as they led by 15 points. 
  • The Golden Eagles continued to feed the hot hand with another three-point bucket from Mason Brooks as they led 48-37. 
  • Cornerstone's sharpshooter found yet another three pointer this time from the corner for Mason Brooks to make it three in a row. 
  • Luke Rowlinson tallied his 14th point off another sweet jumper as the Golden Eagles led 53-37 with 13 minutes left to play. 
  • Andy Mora dropped a dime for Jack Joldersma as Cornerstone continued to roll through the Cougars defense. 
  • Andy Mora added another bucket for Cornerstone off a smooth fake pass and drive at the 10-minute mark of the half. 
  • The Cougars responded with a bucket of their own, but Levi Schultz came right back with a bucket and the foul for Cornerstone to lead by 19 points.
  • Eli Steffen added a free throw for the Golden Eagles in the ninth minute of the game and extended their lead to 61-41. 
  • Levi Schultz put his Cougar defender on a poster with a monster slam and a foul to give Cornerstone a 64-43 advantage. 
  • The Golden Eagles continued to put up points fast thanks to buckets from Luke Rowlinson and Mason Brooks to push their lead to 26 points. 
  • Cleary responded but right back down the floor came Eli Steffen on the lighting fast drive to the bucket. 
  • Mason Brooks was lights out late with Cornerstone pouring it on the Cougars after two more made three-point buckets as they led 79-52. 
  • The Golden Eagles defeated the Cougars 79-56 to secure their third win in a row. 
By the Numbers 
10 – The Golden Eagles have won 9 of their last 10 games as they are hitting their stride right at the perfect time. 
15 – Cornerstone made the most of the turnover battle scoring 15 points compared to the Cougars 9. 
22 – The bench of Cornerstone posted 22 points compared to Cleary's 8.
