Men’s Basketball dominates as they cruise past Michigan-Dearborn

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Men's Basketball cruised past the Wolverines 111-72 in a contest that was nearly over before it started. The Golden Eagles led for almost all 20 minutes of the game as Luke Rowlinson tallied 24 points to lead the home squad. Mason Brooks chipped in 16 points and Kayden Bird was right behind him with 14 points of his own. The Golden Eagles move to 14-7 (10-3) on the season as they prepare for their next test against Rochester Christian on Wednesday, January 29 at 7:30 p.m.

First Half
  • The Wolverines opened the scoring, but Luke Rowlinson answered right back with a bucket of his own. 
  • Blake Stewart picked up right where he left off and knocked down back-to-back jumpers to give Cornerstone a quick 8-5 lead. 
  • The Golden Eagles turned defense into offense early in this game as they got out to an early 10-point lead with 15 minutes left to play in the half. 
  • A scrappy defensive play by Blake Stewart led to a Mason Brooks three-point basket for the Golden Eagles who continued to cruise early. 
  • Luke Rowlinson posted nine points in the first 10 minutes of the game to help Cornerstone to a 26-13 lead. 
  • Connor Dykema went up high to find a steal for the Golden Eagles that Levi Schultz converted into a smooth layup which gave Cornerstone a 28-13 lead.
  • Luke Rowlinson continued his huge first half with two more three pointers as Cornerstone led 38-28 with six minutes left to play in the first half. 
  • Toby Woolcock found his 10th point of the first half off a strong fast break finish as the Golden Eagles were soaring. 
  • Jack Joldersma picked up a loose ball and found an easy dunk to get the home fans on their feet in Mol Arena. 
  • Cornerstone led Michigan-Dearborn 48-30 at the halftime buzzer. 
Second Half
  • Mason Brooks knocked down a three pointer to kick off the scoring for the Golden Eagles in the second half. 
  • Blake Stewart and Jack Joldersma went back-to-back on slasher drives that resulted in buckets for the Golden Eagles who led 55-32. 
  • Luke Rowlinson continued his massive day with a fade away jumper off the glass as Cornerstone kept control of the game. 
  • The sharpshooter Kayden Bird knocked down his first three pointer of the game and gave Cornerstone a 66-37 lead with 14 minutes left to play.
  • In the 12th minute Andy Mora completed the three-point play from the free throw line as Cornerstone led by 30 points. 
  • The Golden Eagles stayed hot from behind the arc as Luke Rowlinson and Kayden Bird knocked down deep shots. 
  • Connor Dykema began to deal the ball with back-to-back assists for the Golden Eagles who led 86-51 with 10 minutes left on the clock. 
  • Levi Schultz found another three point basket for the Golden Eagles with only eight minutes left to play. 
  • Kayden Bird knocked down his fourth three pointer of the game as Cornerstone continued to dominate the Wolverines. 
  • Tre Seydel got in the scorer's book with a back door cut for the bucket as the Golden Eagles led 105-59 with five minutes left to play. 
  • Myles Steffen and Joel Nichols both found strong buckets down the stretch as Cornerstone took down Michigan-Dearborn 111-72. 
By the Numbers 
50% – Cornerstone shot a strong 11-22 from behind the arc in the victory. 
15 – The Golden Eagles brought in 15 offensive rebounds compared to the Wolverines six. 
100% – Toby Woolcock shot a perfect 6-6 from the field scoring 12 points in the game.

The Golden Eagles continue their WHAC competition on Wednesday, January 29 at 7:30 p.m. with a trip across the state to face Rochester Christian.
