Last Week Recap
Men's Basketball kept their winning ways going last week with two dominant victories. The Golden Eagles opened the week with a 104-45 victory over Michigan-Dearborn that saw every player score a basket in the victory. They would then return home to face off against Concordia and came away with an 89-58 victory behind
Cory Ainsworth's 22 points. With their win over Concordia and Rochester's loss to Lawrence Tech, Cornerstone now sits alone in the fourth spot in the conference with a chance to host the first round of the WHAC tournament.
Alumni and Youth Day
This Saturday, February 10 is alumni and youth day at Cornerstone. The basketball teams are welcoming all alumni as well as kids who participated in summer camps to come to Cornerstone to cheer on the Golden Eagles as they take on Siena Heights. After the end of each game, the men's and women's team will sign posters for the first 100 kids and students who are at the games. Come and get a signed poster from the men's and women's team on Saturday!
Chasing 2000/1000
Men's Basketball is close to two big milestones.
Cory Ainsworth is currently sitting with 1,838 points, needing 162 more to get to 2,000 for his career. With for sure seven games remaining for the season, Ainsworth needs to average around 24 points per-game to hit that milestone.
Luke Rowlinson is currently sitting at 970 points for his career, 30 shy of the 1,000 mark. With a good week of basketball, Rowlinson should be able to hit that milestone in the next few games.
Looking at #7 Lourdes
#7 Lourdes comes into the matchup against the Golden Eagles with an overall record of 19-1 (15-1) to lead the way in the conference. Winning their last nine games in a row, Lourdes has seen their national rankings climb up to #7 in the nation, the highest they have been in team history. The Gray Wolves got the best of Cornerstone in their first matchup, winning 84-81 in a tight game. Harris (21) and Holifield (16) for Lourdes led the way as
Luke Rowlinson had 22 for Cornerstone. Lourdes is averaging 84.3 points per-game while shooting 48.5% from the field and being led by their trio of Jackie Harris at 20 points per-game, Shaunn Monroe at 17.3 points per-game, and Joey Holifield at 16.6 points per-game.
Looking at Siena Heights
Siena Heights comes into the week against the Golden Eagles with an overall record of 9-13 (6-10), facing off against UNOH before heading to Cornerstone. Men's Basketball got the best of the Saints in the first matchup of the year winning 73-59 behind
Luke Rowlinson's 20 points. The Saints are averaging just 64 points per-game on 42.1% shooting from the field as they are led by Delano William's 13.4 points per-game.
