Men’s Basketball keeps on rolling as they cruise to a dominant victory over Defiance behind Toby Woolcock’s triple-double

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Men's Basketball comes out of their Thanksgiving break with another WHAC matchup this time against Defiance College. The Golden Eagles extended their win streak to three in a row with a dominant 118-54 victory over the Yellow Jackets. This result kept Cornerstone undefeated in conference play at 3-0 behind a massive triple-double performance from Toby Woolcock. Woolcock posted 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in the game. Kayden Bird also put up a career high in points with 22 thanks to his seven made jumpers from behind the arc. Luke Rowlinson also led the scoring for the Golden Eagles with 25 points in their relentless victory. Men's Basketball sees their next test come on the road against Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday, December 4th at 7:30 p.m.

First Half
  • The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring in this one from the free throw line after being fouled on a three-point shot. 
  • Toby Woolcock found the first bucket for the Golden Eagles not long after with a smooth one-handed finish at the rim to give Cornerstone the early 2-1 lead. 
  • Luke Rowlinson found his rhythm fast in this matchup with a solo 5-0 run to give the home team a 9-4 lead with 15 minutes left to play in the first half. 
  • Defiance's Jalen Brown was their only offensive threat in the first few minutes as he tallied all seven of their points which pulled the yellow jackets back as they trailed 7-9. 
  • The next time down the court Toby Woolcock continued his strong start with another finish at the rim this time with the foul which he converted into the three-point play to extend the Cornerstone lead. 
  • Cornerstone began to show their strength as they extended their lead to 17-9 with buckets from Connor Dykema and Luke Rowlinson in the spell. 
  • The super sub-Kayden Bird came in halfway into the first half and it payed off well for the home team as he knocked down three triples which gave Cornerstone the 29-12 lead with nine minutes left on the clock. 
  • Blake Stewart got in on the scoring with a four-point run and extended the Cornerstone lead to 22 points with seven minutes left to play in the first half. 
  • Kayden Bird drained his fourth three pointer of the half for the Golden Eagles which made the score 41-16 with five minutes left. 
  • Another five-point run for Luke Rowlinson capped off the dominant first half performance for the Golden Eagles as they led 51-26 at the halftime buzzer. 
Second Half
  • Mason Brooks and Luke Rowlinson came out hot in the second half and combined for 11 points in the first three minutes of the half to extend the Golden Eagle lead to 33. 
  • Cornerstone continued to use the hot hand with Mason Brooks as he was able to finish off the three-point play thanks to his acrobatic finish at the rim with 16 minutes left to play. 
  • The next possession for Cornerstone was capped off with a big man three pointer from Tanner Wiegerink that pushed the Golden Eagles lead to 39 points. 
  • The two sharp shooters found the bottom of the net again with back-to-back three pointers from Kayden Bird and Luke Rowlinson that extended the lead to 77-34 with 13 minutes left to play. 
  • Defiance found a four-point run as they hoped to kick-start their offense in a hurry down big in the game but it was much too late to turn this one around.
  • Kayden Bird secured a career high in points as he continued to shine with another pair of three pointers for the Golden Eagles as they led 89-43 with nine minutes left on the clock. 
  • Blake Stewart and Connor Dykema found some rhythm at the free throw line and added four more points to the Cornerstone lead with only eight minutes left to play. 
  • Cornerstone found the fast break they wanted all night with a Levi Schultz airtime dunk to get everyone in Mol Arena on their feet. 
  • Aiden Gortmaker added his name to the scorer's sheet with a strong layup for the home team as they led 105-51. 
  • Tre Seydel went on his own four-point run late in this matchup as the Cornerstone offense continued to roll over the Yellow Jackets. 
  • Sam Koetsier and Joel Nichols also added buckets to close out the victory for the Golden Eagles with a final score of 118-54. 
By the Numbers 
22 – Kayden Bird posted a career high 22 points off seven made three pointers in the game. 
53.2% – Cornerstone shot an impressive 53.2% from the field which helped them post 118 points in the contest. 
51 – It was an all-around team effort in Mol Arena today with 51 bench points scored for the home team.
