ADRIAN, Mich. – Men's Basketball is starting to find their stride at the right time as they win their third straight game with a 73-59 victory over Siena Heights. The defense was the difference maker once again for the Golden Eagles as they held Siena Heights to 38% from the field for 59 points. Luke Rowinson led all scorers with 20 points while
Cory Ainsworth had 17 points and nine rebounds. Cornerstone returns home for the first time in 2024 as they take on #RV Rochester on Wednesday, January 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 73 Siena Heights - 59
- First Half
- Luke Rowlinson got the scoring started for the Golden Eagles with a three that started a 7-2 run to open the games as Eli Steffen and Toby Woolcock followed with layups of their own.
- Siena Heights would answer with a 6-0 run to take an 8-7 lead over the Golden Eagles through the first eight minutes of the game.
- Kayden Bird jump started an 8-2 run with five straight points as Cornerstone retakes the lead 15-10.
- Siena Heights would once again respond with a 7-2 run to tie the game 17-17 with seven minutes remaining in the first half.
- Out of the media timeout, the Golden Eagles would use a 10-2 run to take a 27-19 lead over the Saints as Luke Rowlinson makes two threes during the run.
- Kayden Bird makes another three as Jack Joldersma follows with a three of his own as Cornerstone leads 35-25 with three minutes remaining.
- Connor Dykema finds a cutting Andy Mora in the lane for the basket as the Golden Eagles head into halftime leading 40-27.
- Second Half
- Eli Steffen got the scoring started in the second half with a layup off a pass from Cory Ainsworth.
- Siena Heights calls a timeout to regroup as both teams have struggled to score through the first five minutes of the second half as the Golden Eagles still lead 45-30.
- Cornerstone forced Siena Heights to call a timeout as the Golden Eagles have gone on a 6-0 run to extend their lead 53-34 with 12 minutes remaining in the second half.
- Siena Heights went on a 7-1 run to cut into the Cornerstone lead 54-41, as the Golden Eagles call a timeout to regather as there are 10 minutes remaining.
- Cory Ainsworth and Luke Rowlinson end the scoring drought for the Golden Eagles as their lead grows back to 13, 58-45 with seven minutes remaining in the game.
- The Golden Eagles continue to lead late 64-55 as Luke Rowlinson has found easy points at the free throw line.
- Siena Heights made it interesting down the stretch, cutting Cornerstone lead to seven before the Golden Eagles pulled away at the end at the free throw line and a Toby Woolcock layup.
- Cornerstone would go on to win their third straight game with a 73-59 victory over Siena Heights.
