NEW BOSTON, Mich. – In their second event of the 2023 season, Cornerstone saw great strides highlighted by a new PR and second place finish individual finish from
Haley Nieuwkoop in the 6,000m. The men added three personal bests of their own and saw two freshmen in the top seven. As a team, the 17
th ranked women finished second and the 24
th men finished fourth, both sides earning the top team finish among NAIA programs. CU will have a week off again before heading to Louisville for the Greater Louisville Classic on September 30.
#24 Men's Results
The Golden Eagle men saw two athletes finish in the top 15 of their first 8,000m of 2023, with junior
Jamin Thompson leading the way once again with a sixth-place finish of 25:38. Freshman
Ethan Krampe followed with a 15
th place finish of 26:15. Thompson improves his PR by a second in the race and stays 19
th all-time in program history for the 8,000m.
Outside of the top 15, Cornerstone saw two more PR performances from
Andy Adams and
Isaiah Jacobs. Adams ran a mark of 26:29 to finish 22
nd overall and Jacobs went 26:51 for a 32
nd place finish. Of the top seven, CU saw three PRs from returners and two true freshmen crack the top seven.
As a team, the Golden Eagles took fourth overall. CU scored 98 points and was the top finishing NAIA program at the event, defeating the three other WHAC schools in attendance. Wayne State would win the event with 25 points, recording the top three finishes individually overall.

#17 Women's Results
The Golden Eagle women were once again led by a strong performance from fifth-year senior
Haley Nieuwkoop who cruised to an individual second place finish and top NAIA finish with a 6,000m personal best of 22:08. Nieuwkoop battled Brianna Vojinov from Wayne State for second and third and pulled out the two second advantage at the finish line.
Freshman
Jacie Remtema finished top 10 as well with a seventh-place finish in her first 6k of her collegiate career with a time of 23:13.
Kori Baumann wrapped up the top three with a time of 23:48 to earn 24
th overall.
As a team, Cornerstone finished second overall with a total of 72 points. Wayne State would win the event with 29 points. CU defeated multiple NCAA DIII and DII programs and finished best among the four WHAC programs in attendance.

What's Next?
Cornerstone will head south for their farthest travel of the 2023 regular season at the annual Greater Louisville Classic on September 30. Races will take place at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.
