WINONA LAKE, Ind. – There aren't many times a team has an opportunity to face the number one team in the nation, as men's basketball was shown why Grace is number one in the nation falling 99-68. It was all Grace from the start in this game, getting out to an early 10-0 lead that the Golden Eagles could never recover from. The defense struggled as the Lancers had easy scores and transitions dunks all game.
Mason Brooks and
Blake Stewart were the bright spots off the bench as
Jack Joldersma scored easily in the second half, but it wasn't enough. This loss puts men's basketball at 5-6 on the year as they will play at home in 10-days against Grace Christian on Friday, December 29.
Game Highlights – #1 Grace – 99 Cornerstone - 68
- First Half
- Grace put the pressure on the Golden Eagles right away, forcing a timeout as they have opened the game on an 8-0 run with easy baskets around the rim.
- It continued to be all Grace to start as Luke Rowlinson put an end to the Lancer run, scoring five straight points to make it a 18-5 Grace lead.
- Blake Stewart nails a three to cut Grace's lead to 10, 23-13 with 11 minutes to go in the first half.
- Grace would use the next five minutes to go on a 16-6 run that saw them not miss a three and extend their lead 40-19 over the Golden Eagles.
- A bright spot off the bench, Blake Stewart scored five straight points for the Golden Eagles that was highlighted by an and-one poster dunk on the Grace defender to make it a 49-29 game right before the half.
- Grace hits a three right before the buzzer sounds as the Golden Eagles find themselves down 54-29.
- Second Half
- Cornerstone and Grace opened the second half trading baskets as Jack Joldersma highlighted the Golden Eagle scoring with 10 points. Grace still leads 65-41.
- A three pointer and back-to-back dunks for Grace highlights another quick 7-0 run that saw them extend their back to 30, as Jack Joldersma gets a put back dunk of his own.
- Grace once again went on another big run, this time having a 9-0 run to blow open the game 81-45 with 10 minutes remaining.
- Cornerstone hits three threes in a row, two from Mason Brooks and one from Luke Rowlinson as the offense is finally starting to pick it up.
- Andy Mora makes both of his free throws as Luke Vanderwerff cleans up the glass as the Golden Eagles fall to Grace 99-68.
