GRAND RAPIDS, Mich – The Golden Eagles were back in action after a quick Christmas break that saw one victory and one close loss. Cornerstone traveled to Trinity International and came out victorious with a 73-45 victory. Cornerstone then traveled to old rival Davenport and gave them a battle all game that saw Davenport eventually winning 82-71. Now that nonconference is over, the Golden Eagles are back in action as they host Rochester on Wednesday, January 4 at 5:30 p.m. They then stay around town as they go to rival Aquinas for a now 4 p.m. start on Saturday, January 7.

Cornerstone wrapped up nonconference play last week as the second half of the season now gets under way. Cornerstone faces two tough conference opponents this week in Rochester who is 5-2 in conference and Aquinas who is 3-5 in conference. Cornerstone is currently sitting tied for first with #13 Indiana Tech at 6-1 in conference as they look to continue their great play.
Offensive Performances
Last week saw two Golden Eagles score 20+ points as
Kennedy Helderop scored 24 points and Mackenzie Stein scored 21 both against Davenport last week in their loss.
History vs. Rochester
Rochester has gotten the best of Cornerstone the last few years as they have won the last nine matchups. Rochester, a team that is always in the mix for the top of the conference has struggled this year as Cornerstone will look to end their losing streak against the Warriors.
History vs. Aquinas
Aquinas has gotten the best of the rivalry between Cornerstone as they have won the last eight matchups against the Golden Eagles. The previous matchups have all been close battles but has seen Aquinas edge out Cornerstone for the victory. Cornerstone will look to end that losing streak.
Scouting Rochester
Rochester comes into this matchup on four game losing streak as they sit 7-8 (5-2 WHAC). They are averaging 73.7 points per-game shooting 40.3% from the field as they are led by Senior Krystal Rice and Junior Celeste Mershimer. Rice is averaging 11.4 points and 2.3 rebounds as Mershimer is averaging 9.7 points and 2.7 rebounds. They will look to even up their conference record against Cornerstone.

Aquinas sits at 7-7 (3-5 WHAC) coming into their matchup against Cornerstone.
