Career Highs
Sophomores
Luke Rowlinson and
Eli Steffen had outstanding weeks as the Golden Eagles went 2-0 with wins locally over Grace Christian and Davenport. Both players recorded career high numbers in the games with Rowlinson scoring 29 at GCU for a new best and
Eli Steffen tying a career mark with 11 assists at Davenport. Cornerstone is now 11-4 on the year as they have completed the non-conference season.
Non-Conference Recap
Cornerstone has concluded non-conference play for 2022-23. They played seven non-conference opponents and went 5-2 with the only losses coming to (5) Indiana Wesleyan and (2) Grace College out of the Crossroads League. Three of CU's non-conference games were against NAIA Top 25/RV teams, and one was vs. an NCAA DII foe for a tough schedule overall. Hall of Fame Head Coach
Kim Elders is now 307-138 in his three-decade career in non-conference games at Cornerstone.
Rowlinson Second in Scoring
Sophomore
Luke Rowlinson gets better by the day as he is starting to take over from the shooting guard position as he now is second on the team, averaging 15.3 points per game behind
Cory Ainsworth. In his freshman season, Rowlinson was seventh on the team with 5.1 points per game, jumping over 10 points per game as a now starter.
11-Game Win Streak
Cornerstone will play their rival Aquinas for the first time this season on Saturday, January 7. CU has won 11 straight against AQ with nine of those 11 games decided by 10 or more points. CU's last loss did come in the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center however on February 15, 2017, in an 87-77 loss.
Scouting Rochester
The Warriors are sitting right outside the top 25 yet again this season with an 11-3, 6-1 WHAC record in 2022-23. Rochester won the 2021 WHAC Regular Season Title, their first since joining the conference in 2017. The Warriors are a much younger team than they have been and have a little bit of a different identity with the three-point line being a major factor averaging an NAIA 16th best 10 threes a game. RU is balanced offensively with four players scoring double-figures as well, led by James Ballard the senior at 14.0 PPG.
Scouting Aquinas
The Saints continue to build on a young roster as they look to get back to being successful in the WHAC. They sit at 6-8, 3-5 WHAC so far in the 2022-23 season. AQ plays a lot of low scoring games, averaging 68.6 PPG and holding opponents to 69.1 PPG. West Michigan native Gabe Overway leads the way for Aquinas in his senior season with 13.9 PPG to go along with a team best 1.1 BPG and second best 5.4 RPG. He has been dominant from the field as well, with a similar shooting percentage to
Cory Ainsworth at 61.0%.
