ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Eagles knocked out two WHAC duals in Rochester Hills on Tuesday evening taking on Cleary and the host (RV) Rochester Warriors. CU split the pair as a team, downing the short-handed Cleary Cougars 51-6 before falling to Rochester 23-18. Cornerstone moves to 5-8, 2-2 WHAC on the year in dual action as they will go back to invite action on Saturday in North Manchester, Indiana at the Manchester Invite.

Cleary would come into the match with just two available wrestlers competing at the 133 weight class and heavyweight class. Devan Johnson would be the highlight of the first match in a high scoring dual with Ryan Weaver. Johnson took an early lead with two takedowns and a near fall in the first period. Weaver responded with two escapes and two takedowns in the final two periods to make it just a one-point decision in favor of Johnson.

Sterling McLaughlin was the only CU wrestler to get the chance to wrestle and he dominated from start to finish in his match. He earned six takedowns before a very late pin at the 6:14 mark.

Every other match resulted in a forfeit, giving Cornerstone the 51-6 victory.

Zielinski competed at 125 and earned a 16-0 tech fall, nearly pinning his opponent in the opening minutes of the first period. Marsman added three more points with an 11-8 decision at another rare appearance at 133. A third period escape and takedown by Marsman sealed the 11-8 victory to earn CU three more points.

The script started to flip at the later weights and again a forfeit at 149 would hurt the Golden Eagles.
