Last Week Recap
The Golden Eagles took on two teams in the bottom half of the WHAC last week inside Mol Arena and snuck away with two victories, beating Concordia 82-69 and Siena Heights 84-81 in overtime. Cornerstone now sits third in the WHAC with a 15-8, 9-4 conference record. This week, CU concludes a three game home stand vs. Lawrence Tech before traveling to Rochester on Saturday.
OT Facts
Cornerstone played their second extra time game of the year, defeating Siena Heights in overtime on Saturday. This is CU's first overtime victory since October 26, 2019 when they defeated the number one team in the country Spring Arbor in the WHAC/Crossroads League Challenge. In Head Coach Kim Elders career, CU is 10-10 in single overtime games, and 0-7 in double/triple overtime contests.
Rodriguez 11 Away
Redshirt-Senior Christian Rodriguez continues to inch closer to 2000 career points as he is now 11 away after scoring 25 against Concordia and 11 vs. Siena Heights. Rodriguez leads the team with 20.1 points per game and 5.1 assists per game.
Scouting Lawrence Tech
After a great start the year, Lawrence Tech has had a rough go of late, losing four of their last six contests. Last time out, LTU earned a 22 point victory over UNOH to improve to 12-9, 9-6 WHAC on the year. Sophomore guard Brandon Beavers is the lone player in the WHAC to average more points per game than CU's Christian Rodriguez as he sits .1 higher at 20.2 a game. LTU also has a forward Gunnar Gustafson who leads the conference in field goal percentage at 66.5%. The Blue Devils upset Cornerstone in Southfield in the third WHAC game of the year this year 71-62 for their first win against the Golden Eagles since the 2018-19 season.
Scouting Rochester
The Warriors have played the most games of any team in the NAIA with a 16-9, 7-6 WHAC record. The defending WHAC Regular Season Champion has lost two of their last three contests with the lone win coming against Lawrence Tech 79-54. RU has struggled offensively but they continue to be one of the best on the defensive end, ranking 11th in the country allowing 63.4 PPG. The Warriors are loaded with seniors, as five of their top six leading scorers are in year four or five at the collegiate level. Head Coach Klint Pleasant has mixed up the lineup this year as well, with eight different Warriors earning a start this season.
