GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Fresh off Christmas break, the Golden Eagles were back in action against Grace Christian for the second time this month. This game was a little bit of a different story that saw offense from both sides that resulted in a closer game than anticipated for Cornerstone. Thanks to
Luke Rowlinson's career night of 29 points, he helped the Golden Eagles to a 98-89 victory over GCU. Next up on the schedule is old rival Davenport for the Golden Eagles on Friday, December 30 for a 3 p.m. tip off.
Game Highlights
- First Half
- The first four minutes of the game showed just little defense by both teams as Grace Christian shot out to a 19-12 lead with 15:44 remaining in the first half. Bankeys Omari had 11 of the first 19 for the Tigers as he couldn't miss a shot as Luke Rowlinson for the Golden Eagles had all 12 points.
- The next five minutes saw more offense on both sides as Cornerstone found their first lead of the game 29-28 with 10:27 to go in the first half. So far for the Golden Eagles, Luke Rowlinson has led the way with balanced scoring by Trent Summerfield, Cory Ainsworth, and big buckets by Mason Brooks to grab the lead from the Tigers.
- Cornerstone got up to a 37-31 lead before Grace Christian hit back-to-back threes to tie it up. Eli Steffen has the quick response nailing his only three of the game as Cory Ainsworth went to work scoring four more points to bring the lead back to 44-37.
- Bankeys Omari and Luke Rowlinson led the offenses for their teams as Cornerstone was just sneaking by with a halftime lead of 53-48
- Second Half
- Cornerstone started off quick in the second half scoring at will that saw them extend their lead to 64-55, five minutes into the second half of the game. But before long, Grace Christian would respond scoring a quick five points to make it back a five-point game.
- Luke Rowlinson continued his great basketball by scoring five straight points for the Golden Eagles giving them the 10-point lead 70-60 with 14 minutes to go in the first half.
- It has been a back-and-forth affair between the two teams that has saw Cornerstone's lead be anywhere between five to eight points as the Golden Eagles have always found a response to the Grace Christian attack as buckets by Cory Ainsworth, Connor Dykema, and Eli Steffen have silenced the attempted runs by the Tigers.
- Cornerstone was able to knock down most of their free throws down the stretch to escape with a victory over Grace Christian 98-89.

- 29/8 – Luke Rowlinson set a new career with 29 points to go along with eight rebounds
- 20/9 – Cory Ainsworth had another one of his typical games scoring 20 points and bringing down nine rebounds.
