GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles shined in all areas tonight allowing just 42 points, the lowest opponent point total since the 2015-16 season in a dominant 91-42 home victory over Concordia. Cornerstone has now shot above 50% in six consecutive games as they move to 6-1, 4-0 WHAC on the year. They will return to play on Saturday for a non-conference home game vs. IU-South Bend, starting at 3 p.m.
Game Flow
- Cornerstone led from start to finish, scoring the first eight points of the game highlighted by two field goals from Carter Nyp.
- Concordia would score the next five to cut it to three, but an early injury to Zac Clark hurt the Cardinals as they missed one of their leading scorers the remainder of the game.
- The Carter Nyp show continued hitting three consecutive threes to balloon the edge to 19-5 with 12:43 to play in the first half.
- Luke Rowlinson started to hit from deep while Cory Ainsworth got going down low as the advantage continued to grow to 19 with 4:44 left in the first half.
- After Concordia cut it back to 14, Trent Summerfield would cap of a CU run to end the period with a layup that gave them a 43-24 halftime advantage.
- Toby Woolcock would hit a three early in the second half as it was much of the same with the Golden Eagles maintaining a huge lead.
- The Cornerstone defense stuck Concordia on 31 for a huge portion of the second half, using an 18-0 run to go up by 40. Eli Steffen started the run with some buckets, while Cory Ainsworth, Luke Rowlinson, and Carter Nyp all continued to shine offensively.
- In the final seven minutes, Luke VanderWerff got some time with other bench players. The big man duo of VanderWerff and Connor Dykema would go 7-11 down the stretch as the Golden Eagles earned a 91-42 home victory over Concordia for their sixth straight win.
