Last Week Recap

The Golden Eagles had just one game last week before taking their second half bye on Saturday as they traveled to receiving votes Indiana Tech and the top team in the WHAC. CU stayed within striking distance all game, but could not earn the road victory falling 71-65 to the Warriors.

Back Home

Cornerstone returns home for the first time in 2022 after seven straight on the road. CU has struggled on the road this year as they went 3-4 in that stretch and are 5-6 overall in true road games this year. Cornerstone last played in Mol Arena on December 4, 2021. Cornerstone ends the regular season with an outstanding home stretch with seven of the last nine to be played in Mol Arena.

Less Than a Month from 1k

Pending any COVID-19 reschedules, veteran Head Coach Kim Elders is less than a month away from coaching his 1000th career game. As it stands right now, senior day on February 19, 2022 will line up as Coach E's 1000th career game which would make him the sixth active coach in the NAIA to hit that mark, and second ever in the state of Michigan at any level to hit the achievement at one school.

Summerfield Starts

CU has made a minor adjustment to the starting lineup in the last week or so, as Trent Summerfield has started each of the last two games. He still is averaging roughly 20 minutes a game as he replaces Drew Knickerbocker.

Scouting Concordia

Concordia has struggled in 2021-22 as they sit under .500 at 8-12, 3-12 WHAC. Despite the tough record, the Cardinals are playing their best basketball of late with an upset two overtime win vs. Lawrence Tech a week ago before falling to Madonna on Saturday by seven. The Cardinals are led by four seniors who are balanced offensively with all four scoring 10+ PPG. The team has struggled on the defensive side of the ball however, allowing 77.5 PPG at a 46.2% clip. Cornerstone got redemption from the WHAC Tournament loss earlier this year in Ann Arbor, earning a 19 point victory on November 23.

Scouting Siena Heights

Siena Heights currently sits second to last in the WHAC with a 5-16, 2-11 conference record. They have lost seven of their last eight with the only victory being a one point win vs. Aquinas. SHU has 10 freshmen on the roster and just two seniors. One of those seniors is forward Kevin Rice who has led the team with 15.0 PPG and 1.3 BPG. The Saints play a very isolated style of offense, averaging just eight assists per game through 21 contests. Cornerstone has won the last two against Siena Heights, including a dominant 28-point victory in Adrian on November 20.
