Men's Basketball travels to current WHAC frontrunner for lone game this week

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Cornerstone continues the second half of the WHAC season with a tough rivalry matchup at recieving votes Indiana Tech for the lone game this week. Action will tip in Fort Wayne at 8 p.m. inside the Schaefer Center. A reminder to fans that IIT has a mask mandate for all indoor public spaces. Strube Strong Week

Redshirt senior Jonny Strube erupted to lead the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 week, averaging a double-double in the two games and recording career highs in points, rebounds, and assists at UM-Dearborn with 29/16/5. 16-rebounds is the most by a Cornerstone player since 2018 when Kyle Hayes recorded 15+. CU will conclude the season long road trip this week with a single game at receiving votes Indiana Tech before returning home to take on Concordia next Tuesday in Mol Arena. 

UNOH Reschedule

After COVID-19 protocol postponed the Golden Eagles game at UNOH, the two teams have found a reschedule date. CU will travel to the Racer's on Monday, February 7 for a 7:30 p.m. tip to replace that missed date. 

WHAC up for Grabs

As the second half gets underway, there are still six teams all within three games for first place in the WHAC. Indiana Tech currently leads the way with a 9-2 conference record with Lawrence Tech just one game back at 8-3. Cornerstone is tied with Lourdes at 7-3 with Rochester and Madonna right behind tied at 6-4. 

Crod Surpasses 100 Assists

For the fifth consecutive season, Christian Rodriguez has recorded over 100 assists as he has 103 in 2021-22. Rodriguez is nearing pace to hit 175, which is his season record, recorded back in 2018-19.  

Records Update

Christian Rodriguez, Carter Nyp, and Cory Ainsworth all continue to inch closer to points milestones. Rodriguez is 75 away from 2000, Nyp is 112 away from 1,000, and Ainsworth is 125 away from 1,000. 

Scouting Indiana Tech

The Warriors have won five of their last six contests and have not lost a WHAC game since November 17 vs. Lourdes as they sit at 15-6, 9-2 WHAC on the year. Indiana Tech is one of the best defensive teams in the country, holding opponents to 39.7% from the field to rank 16th in the NAIA. IIT has many veteran weapons offensively as four seniors lead the team in scoring, with Grant Smith scoring a team high 14.6 PPG. Smith also leads the team with 7.1 RPG and is second on the team with 2.8 APG. 

History vs. Indiana Tech

Cornerstone and Indiana Tech have had a storied rivalry atop the WHAC over the last five years especially as the last eight meetings the two teams have split at 4-4. No team has won two consecutive contests since 2017-18 going into 2018-19 when IIT defeated CU in Schaefer Center in back-to-back matchups. Cornerstone has struggled in Fort Wayne lately as well, going 1-4 in the last five meetings at Schaefer Center.
