GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Golden Eagles tied their longest win streak of the season at three straight with wins at Aquinas and Rochester last week before ending with a tough five point loss at receiving votes Indiana Tech. Cornerstone is 7-4, 4-2 WHAC and currently sits fifth among the conference standings. This week, CU will play Concordia and Northwestern Ohio who both sit in the bottom half of the WHAC table, before a rematch with Madonna who beat the Golden Eagles in double-overtime just a couple of weeks ago. Rodriguez Nears 500
Senior point guard Christian Rodriguez is nearing 500 career assists, as he now has 484 on his career. Rodriguez most recently passed Michael McLaughlin for fourth all-time in program history and is just five assists away from Gordie Lindsay who is third on the list. The 500 assist mark has only been achieved by one Golden Eagle in program history, as Scott O'Day did it back in 1985-89 with 576 total assists. Rodriguez is fourth in the NAIA averaging 6.2 APG.
Balance is Key
In all but one game this season, Cornerstone has seen at least three players score in double-figures. Twice Cornerstone has seen six players in double figures. Despite the balance, the Golden Eagles have not been successful when a player scores 20 or more points in a game this season, going 0-3 in those contests.
Scouting Concordia
The Cardinals have been up and down all season, starting the year with three straight losses, winning four in a row, then most recently losing three straight again. CUAA sits at 4-6, 2-3 WHAC and they are coming off a tough 9-20, 4-15 WHAC record in 2019-20. Concordia has had seven different athletes start a game this season with the guard duo of Thomas Hronis and Zackary Johnson leading the way in PPG. Hronis is a threat from the three point line, ranking second in the NAIA with four made threes per game.
Scouting UNOH
The Racers are still looking for their first win at 0-10, 0-8 WHAC. They are the only team in the conference who has yet to win a game, and they have finished with a losing record in each of the last three seasons. Fourth year head coach Caleb Williams has been unable to find a winning formula, as the team has lost seven of 10 games by double-figures. Senior Nathan Lessing has been the biggest bright spot, leading the team in PPG and three point percentage this season.
Scouting Madonna
Since beating Cornerstone in double-overtime, the Crusaders have been hot winning their last three contests with dates vs. Lourdes and Indiana Tech still to come before facing CU again. The hero of the last matchup Henry Speight has been on fire, shooting 53.5% from the field and averaging 22.9 PPG. Head Coach Kim Elders and the Golden Eagles have lost five straight against Madonna, the longest losing streak against MU in Coach E history.
