GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles cruised to victory behind balanced scoring and great ball movement for their 10
th straight win against Aquinas, 93-66 inside Mol Arena on Saturday afternoon. Four players scored in double-figures with 19 from
Christian Rodriguez and 18 from
Carter Nyp as CU improves to 6-1, 2-0 WHAC on the year. Cornerstone hits the road for the first time this year on Wednesday, November 17 at Lawrence Tech for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
What you need to know?
- The first 12 points of the game were scored via the three-ball as Cornerstone and Aquinas sat tied 6-6 after 2:45 to play.
- Trent Summerfield brought the CU lead to its largest so far at seven with a layup inside.
- Drew Knickerbocker followed with an and-one to give CU a 31-24 edge.
- Carter Nyp had an outstanding first half hitting a three with 6:20 to play to increase the Golden Eagle lead to double figures at 39-29.
- Jack Joldersma had another outstanding put-back dunk with 4:26 to go in the half.
- Christian Rodriguez ended the half with a layup that gave CU a 14-point lead at halftime, 53-39.
- Cornerstone started the second half on a 7-2 run as Carter Nyp capped it off with another three to increase the lead to 19.
- The Golden Eagles then took off from deep, hitting seven consecutive three-balls to put the game out of reach at 80-51.
- CU then let the starters rest, putting the bench players in. AQ followed shortly after with their bench for the final 10 minutes of play.
- The two sides took a minute with the bench players to get back into scoring action as there was roughly a two-minute spurt without a point.
- Connor Dykema capped off the massive win with a dunk with 49 seconds to play.
- Cornerstone improved to 6-1, 2-0 WHAC with a 93-66 victory.
