Last Week Recap
Looking to snap a recent losing skid, Cornerstone had two opportunities to pick up a win against teams in the bottom half of the WHAC standings.
This past Wednesday, the Golden Eagles left the state for the final time this season to take on UNOH. The Racers came out swinging, hitting nine threes in the first half and fifteen on the night. A career high 17 rebounds by
Rebekah Crosby was not enough to help CU battle back, as they fell 77-53.
Rochester University came to Mol Arena on Saturday, as the Golden Eagles played host on Alumni Day. The Warriors threw the first punch, but it was Cornerstone who took the lead into the fourth quarter. A balanced scoring attack led by
Shelby Nyboer's 17 points, had CU in control late. However, Rochester turned up the pressure and the energy, making a late surge to claim an 80-75 victory over the Golden Eagles.
Strong Week from Richards
Although Cornerstone was unable to claim a victory last week, junior F/C
Allyson Richards enjoyed a solid week. In 18 minutes of action against UNOH, Richards notched 10 points and dished out a pair of assists. In CU's matchup with Rochester, Richards tallied 12 points in 12 minutes to set a career high.
Scouting Lourdes University
Cornerstone will welcome the Lourdes Gray Wolves to Mol Arena this Wednesday, seeking revenge for an 80-65 loss earlier in the season.
Lourdes boasts a balanced scoring attack that features six players averaging at least 7 points a contest. Sophomore G/F Mary Liedel, a transfer from Spring Arbor, leads the team with an average of 9.8 points a game. Liedel also leads the team in rebounds, pulling down 7.5 per game. The Gray Wolves Achilles heel is turnovers, as they average over 18 a game. The Golden Eagles will have to look to press the issue on defense in order to grab the victory.
Scouting Aquinas College
The Saints of Aquinas College will host CU this Saturday, looking to snap a losing skid of their own. Losers of four straight, AQ will be hoping for a repeat of their 64-48 victory over CU on January 13th.
Cornerstone will have to contain Daz'Sha Day who leads the team with an average of 10.1 points per game. CU will also have to keep Camariya Williams off the glass as she grabbed 18 rebounds in their first matchup. The Saints struggle behind the arc, shooting under 27%. If CU can secure rebounds and force AQ to win from the perimeter, the Golden Eagles will be in a good spot.
