Late run from the Warriors doom Men’s Basketball in 71-61 loss

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Despite hitting 10 threes' in the game, the Golden Eagles could not handle the late run from the Warriors falling 71-61 in Fort Wayne. Indiana Tech went on a 27-11 run in the final 10 minutes of play to doom Cornerstone and drop them to 14-9, 8-6 WHAC. CU is now three games back from the conference lead as they get set to host No. 22 Madonna on Saturday at 3 p.m. 

What you need to know? 
  • After some sloppy play and suffocating defense to start the game, Cornerstone finally score their first bucket on a Tyler Baker three with over four minutes gone off the clock to tie the game at three. 
  • Just five minutes into the game, Indiana Tech's leading scorer Josh Kline went down with an injury and did not return to action. 
  • The offense slowly began to pick up, as Cory Ainsworth hit a jumper to tie the game at 13 with 9:37 left in the first half. 
  • Christian Rodriguez, Drew Knickerbocker, and Trent Summerfield all hit a three to give CU nine straight points from behind the arc and get out to a 24-16 lead. Eight points was Cornerstone's largest lead of the first half. 
  • Carter Nyp added Cornerstone's fifth three of the game to take a 30-23 lead with 49 seconds to play. 
  • A coast to coast layup added to a strong end of the half for CU, as the team took a 32-25 advantage into the locker room. 
  • Out of the half, Cornerstone executed a set piece well as Brent Hibbitts hit a three to give the Golden Eagles their largest lead of 10 at 35-25. 
  • Once again, Cornerstone scored nine straight points on the three ball with two coming from Christian Rodriguez to take their largest lead of the game at 46-34. 
  • Carter Nyp hit a pair of free throws to make it 50-39 with 10:29 to play. 
  • Everything began to go south at this point for CU as the Warriors stormed back with a 12-1 run to take a 56-54 advantage.
  • CU never saw the lead again as Indiana Tech scored 15 of the final 20 points in the game to down the Golden Eagles 71-61. 
 
 
By the Numbers 
  • 30 of the Golden Eagles 61 points came from behind the arc. 
  • CU was outscored by 17 points in the second half after holding the lead. 
  • Christian Rodriguez led the team with 17 points on 7-20 from the field. 
  • Cornerstone went 9-12 at the free throw line and saw a 7-8 mark from Carter Nyp
  • Indiana Tech had 33 bench points in the win. 
 
 
What's Next? 
The schedule does not get easier for the Golden Eagles as they return home on Saturday to host No. 22 Madonna at 3 p.m.
