Rivalry game highlights two game week for No. 6 Men’s Basketball

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –  The Golden Eagles are set for two more Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) contests, as they will host Aquinas on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and travel to Lourdes on Saturday at 3 p.m. CU looks to stay atop the conference standings sitting a game up on both Madonna and Indiana Tech. Undefeated at Home
CU remains perfect at home this season, with an 8-0 record inside Mol Arena on the year. The Golden Eagles have won their eight home games by an average of 17.5 points per game including a season best 30 point win vs. Lawrence Tech. In the past three seasons, Cornerstone has lost a total of two games at home with a record of 37-2 inside Mol Arena. 
 
National Statistics
Cornerstone has been one of the best in the country defensively this season ranking best among all NAIA DII teams in both total blocks (107), blocks per game (5.1), and total rebounds (910). CU is also third in the nation in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 31.9% from the field. 
 
Scouting AQ
The Saints have struggled so far in the 2018-19 season losing four of their last five games for a record of 5-15 overall, and 4-7 in WHAC play. The Grand Valley State University transfer DeShawn Lewis has led Aquinas throughout this season, averaging a team best 15.6 PPG and 4.5 RPG. AQ has struggled rebounding the ball averaging just 32.0 RPG, ranking worst in the WHAC. 
 
Scouting LU
Lourdes is having one of their best seasons in recent history with a record of 14-7, 5-6 WHAC. 14 wins is more than the Gray Wolves have had in each of the last three seasons, and is just eight wins shy from tying the teams most all-time. LU has been great offensively, averaging a conference fourth best 80.19 points per game. The Gray Wolves have a trio of sophomores who average 14+ points per game in Kadeim Jones (17.0),  Clif Snow (16.1), and Brett Lauf (14.5). Sophomore Brett Lauf is also one of the best passers in the country with 110 assists this season to rank fifth in all of NAIA DII. 
 
History vs. Weekly Opponents
Head coach Kim Elders holds a combined record of 62-23 against this weeks opponents. He is 46-22 vs. AQ and 16-1 vs. LU all-time.
