Vander Sluis moves to second in career rebounding during 85-68 loss for No. 9 Men’s Hoops

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Senior Sam Vander Sluis pulled down 10 of his 16 rebounds in the first half to pass his high school and college teammate Kyle Steigenga for second in program history during an 85-68 loss at no. 16 Indiana Tech on Saturday afternoon. CU was outscored 50-37 in the second half moving their record to 11-4, 6-1 WHAC on the year. The Golden Eagles will pick up play a week from today with another conference road trip at Northwestern Ohio. 
 
What you need to know 
  • Cornerstone would get off to a hot start offensively hitting four of their first five three-point attempts to gain a 20-6 lead. 
  • Indiana Tech would respond with a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 20-15. 
  • CU would get back on top by nine after a steal and layup by Kyle Hayes brought the score to 26-17. 
  • The Warriors would dominate the remainder of the first half, shooting 42.4% from the field to take a 35-31 lead into the half. 
  • Sam Vander Sluis recorded 10 first half rebounds to move into second all-time in career rebounding in Cornerstone program history. 
  • The Golden Eagles would cut the deficit to four multiple times in the first 10 minutes of the second half but could never regain the lead from the Warriors. 
  • A 12-0 run by Indiana Tech that held Cornerstone scoreless for two and a half minutes would increase the Warrior lead to a game high 22 points with just 3:13 left.               
  • CU shot just  37% from the field in the second half to fall 85-68 at no. 16 Indiana Tech.
