Women’s Basketball held to season low 30 points in Westmont Holiday Classic Opener

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Golden Eagles were held to a season low 30 points in a tough 79-30 loss in the opener of the Westmont Holiday Classic. The 2017-18 NAIA DI National Runner-Up Westmont Warriors got off to a slow start but were able to shoot 42.3% from the field and 50% behind the arc to earn the win. Cornerstone is now 2-15 on the year, as they conclude their trip to Santa Barbara, California tomorrow against no. 22 The Master's College at 6 p.m. EST. 

What you need to know? 
  • Both teams struggled to score early, as Westmont got the first points of the game 2:15 into the first quarter on an and one after a steal. 
  • CU would take a 6-4 lead after four points from Shelby Nyboer, but the Westmont Warriors would end the quarter on a 16-2 run to lead 20-8 at the end of the period. 
  • Westmont continued on their offensive tear to begin the second quarter, adding to their 16-2 run with eight more in the first two minutes to lead 28-8 with eight minutes remaining in the half. 
  • Shelby Nyboer scored eight first half points, but Cornerstone was held to a season low 14 points in the first half and trailed 37-14. 
  • Taylor Richards would score the first four points of the third for CU, but the Westmont defense would continue to dominate to lead 61-24.
  • Westmont would go on a 9-0 run to begin the fourth and hold Cornerstone scoreless for the first 4:17 of the final period. 
  • Missy Maas and Lexi Boven would get buckets late in the fourth as the Golden Eagles fell 79-30 in the Westmont Holiday Classic Opener.
