National Tournament Preview: No. 2 Cornerstone vs. No. 7 IU-East

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – The No. 2 ranked Golden Eagles enter their tenth ever trip to the NAIA Quarterfinals on Saturday where they will take on No. 7 Indiana University – East at 2 p.m. EST. The Golden Eagles reached the third round thanks to a 66-58 win over Saint Francis and the Red Wolves are there thanks to a 73-68 win over NW Christian (Ore.).

Scouting Indiana - East – Head coach Mark Hester (10th Season)
The Redwolves, under 10th year head coach Mark Hester, won the East Division of the River States Conference and come into the quarterfinals with an overall record of 28-7 after Friday's 73-68 win over NW Christian. IU-East, which also won the RSC Conference Tournament, puts up 85.9 points per game and is led by Jordan Furlow at 14.6 per night. Joining him in double-figures is Kyle Pipenger (13.3) and Jacoby Claypool (11.7). The Redwolves rank No. 1 in the country in 3-pt FG% (.417) and No. 3 in Blocks per Game (4.9).
 
How They Got Here
Cornerstone advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to an 89-83 win over Pacific Union in the first round and 66-58 win over St. Francis in the second round. IU-East took out Reinhardt (Ga.) 84-74 in their opener and then NW Christian 73-68 in the second round.
 
NAIA Tournament History
Cornerstone is making their 15th appearance at the NAIA National Tournament and 14th since it was moved to Point Lookout, Mo. CU has an overall record of 35-11 in the tourney and boasts a trio of championships in 1999, 2011 and 2015.
 
10th Time Elite
The win on Friday over St. Francis lifts Cornerstone into their 10th quarterfinals in program history as the Golden Eagles are now 10-3 in second round games. CU has advanced past the quarterfinals six times with the last being in 2015 when they won their third NAIA title.
