Men’s Basketball cruises to 83-54 win; Cox breaks 3-point record

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cory Cox became the school's all-time leader in 3-point FG made and he helped the No. 1 ranked Golden Eagles claim at least a share of the regular season WHAC title with an 83-54 win over UM-Dearborn Wednesday night. The victory is the ninth in a row for Cornerstone as they improve to 25-2 overall and 18-1 in league play. CU will remain at home Saturday when they play host to No. 10 Davenport at 3 p.m.

Game Flow
The visiting Wolverines jumped out to a big 10-0 lead just like they had done down at Dearborn in the first meeting between the two teams but CU hung together and used a 16-5 spurt to take their first lead with 10:30 to play in the opening half. Five straight points from Kyle Steigenga ignited another run for CU as they scored seven straight and it was a run that was finished off by a Cory Cox steal and layup, forcing UMD into a timeout with the Golden Eagles leading 25-20. CU would never trail again as they went into the half leading 31-28.

Cornerstone then came out on fire to start the second as Cox and Michael McLaughlin hit back to back triples which was followed by a Steigenga layup to increase the lead to 39-28. The Wolverines made one last push to stay within eight but Sam Vander Sluis got the crowd really going with two dunks in a three-possession span and the rout was on. CU kept the foot on the gas pedal as they blew out UMD, 83-54.

Say What?
