GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone led by just eight at halftime tonight, but a 45-23 difference in the second lifted them to a blowout win over visiting Lourdes. The 90-60 victory improves the Golden Eagles to 23-2 on the season and 16-1 in the WHAC. CU will hit the road for their last trip of the season outside of Grand Rapids when they face Lawrence Tech in Southfield on Saturday.
Game Flow
Cornerstone, which has gotten off to fast starts multiple times over their seven-game winning streak, did it again on Wednesday as they scored the first seven points of the game. The Gray Wolves however used a 9-3 run to cut the margin to only one with just under 16 minutes to play. The Golden Eagles then started to put some distance between them and LU as they used small spurts throughout the half to extend the margin to eight (45-37) at the break. Lourdes stayed close thanks to a 60% shooting percentage and was 6/7 from behind the arc.
Cornerstone then scored 18 of the first 24 points of the second half to build their lead and the rout was on as all but two players scored on the night. CU received 21 points from their bench and finished the game shooting 54.2% from the field, which included 44% from behind the arc.
