GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone raced out to a double-digit lead in the opening minutes but Davenport used a big second half to post a 90-81 upset of the No. 1 ranked Golden Eagles. The loss is the first for CU since late October as they fall to 16-2 overall and 9-1 in the WHAC. Cornerstone will look to rebound when they take on No. 25 Northwestern Ohio next Wednesday in Lima.
Game Flow
Cornerstone came out on fire in the early going as they scored the first nine points of the game, forcing the Panthers into an early timeout. That lead continued to grow over the next few minutes and after back to back triples from
Eric Readman and
Cory Cox, CU was up 15 (29-14) with 8:28 to play in the first half. DU however got a few stops and behind the play of Javon Haines, crawled back into the game and CU went into the locker room up only four (39-35).
Davenport continued their push into the second half and they scored the first five points to take their first lead of the game at 40-39. Over the next five minutes, the lead would change hands four more times but it was the Panthers who used a 13-4 run to open a 59-50 lead and the margin never fell below six for the remainder of the game as DU hit 34/38 free throws on the game.
