No. 1 Men’s Hoops faces Siena Heights and Madonna

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 1 ranked men's basketball team continues league play this week with a home game on Wednesday vs. Siena Heights and a road contest at Madonna on Saturday. The Golden Eagles, which received all 12 first-place votes in the latest NAIA DII poll that was released on Tuesday, are 20-2 overall and 13-1 in the WHAC.

Scouting Siena Heights – Head coach Joe Pechota (5th Season)
The Saints, under the direction of fifth year head coach Joe Pechota, come into the week with an overall record of 11-10 while they are 6-8 in WHAC play. The Saints, who split with Concordia and UM-Dearborn last week, boast an exciting offense that is averaging almost 70 points per game and one that connected on 11 triples in the setback to the Wolverines last Saturday. Leading the offense is the trio of Chris Pearl (12.4), Jerrell Martin (12.1) and Tomy Jackson (11.0) while they are shooting almost 43% on the year. The Saints also boast one of the best defenses in the nation, limiting their opponents to just 69 points per game, ranking 6th in the NAIA.

Scouting Madonna – Head coach Noel Emenhiser (5th Season)
5th year head coach Noel Emenhiser and the Crusaders are 10-12 overall and 5-9 in league play entering the week that sees them face Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday before welcoming Cornerstone to Livonia on Saturday. Madonna has won three of its last four games overall, including an OT win at Aquinas last weekend. The Crusaders, who put up 75.1 points per night, have a very balanced lineup that boasts four double-figure scorers. Chris Dierker leads the way at 15.1 and is followed by Austin Johnson (14.8). MU ranks 25th in the nation in rebound margin (4.9) and 26th in FG% Defense (.425).
