FORT WAYNE, Ind. – After being held to a career-low five points in the Golden Eagles' win over Aquinas Wednesday night, junior
Kyle Steigenga exploded for a new high of 38 today to help No. 2 Cornerstone defeat Indiana Tech 72-54. The victory is the tenth straight for CU as they are now 10-1 overall and 4-0 in the WHAC. CU will remain on the road next Wednesday when they travel to Lourdes for an 8 p.m. tip.
Game Flow
The Warriors, which were ranked as high as No. 20 in the country just a week ago, saw CU take early control of the game thanks to some balance on the offensive end from
Cory Cox,
Marquise Hatter and Steigenga as the Golden Eagles built a 16-11 lead. Indiana Tech then used 20-10 run to open their own 5-point lead but CU closed the half by scoring the final four points to make it 31-30 Warriors at the break.
The teams would trade buckets in the early part of the second half as Indiana Tech maintained a slim 41-38 lead with 12:51 to play. Cornerstone then went on a 9-0 spurt, with all points coming from
Kyle Steigenga, to lead 47-41 and the margin never got any closer than four the remainder of the game.
