No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan downs Women’s Basketball 54-39

MARION, Ind. – The tough non-conference season continued for Cornerstone tonight falling 54-39 on the road to No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan. The Golden Eagles are now 2-2 on the year with both losses coming to top 15 NAIA ranked teams. CU will return to Grand Rapids for the WHAC regular season opener vs. Siena Heights University on Saturday with opening tip set for 3 p.m.

Game Flow
Cornerstone hung tough with the No. 9 Wildcats coming out of the first quarter tied 13-13 in a heavily defensive minded game. IWU managed to pull away in the second quarter gaining a six-point lead going into halftime due to five steals and a 5-9 mark from behind the arc.

Indiana Wesleyan continued to pull away slowly in the second half as CU went just 6-20 from the field and 0-3 from behind the arc, scoring only 16 points in the final 20 minutes. Jesse Sheridan led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 10 points going 4-20 from the field while also recording a team high six rebounds in the game. Cass Vredevoogd scored nine points of her own and tallied five rebounds in the 54-39 loss.

News and Notes
  • CU has lost their last six appearances to the Wildcats with their last win coming on November 19, 2010.
  • Cornerstone has tallied 90 offensive rebounds through the first four games of the season, recording 27 twice, which is a record under coach Mattera.
  • The Golden Eagles recorded a season low 39 points, which is the lowest number of points CU has scored since 2012 when they lost 35-60 to these same Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats.

17-27 – Cornerstone continued their offensive rebounding prowess recording 17 offensive rebounds and 27 defensive rebounds.
4+3 – Jesse Sheridan (4) and Cass Vredevoogd (3) combined for seven steals in tonight's game.
