The two highest honors of the CU Athletic Department in 2015-16 were of the senior male and female athletes of the year and the winner of the male award went to Ben Lanning (SR/Grandville, Mich.) of the men's basketball team.

Ben Lanning had a standout 3-year career for the Golden Eagles as he helped his team to a combined 90-17 overall record, one WHAC regular season championship, two WHAC Tournament titles and the program's third NAIA DII National Championship in 2014-15.

Lanning was honored named an Honorable Mention All-American by the NAIA in 2015-16 to go along with his 1st Team All-WHAC selection and finished the season second on the team in scoring at 14.3 points per game while leading CU in rebounding (8.0). The 6-8 forward missed five games after a ankle injury but still managed to go over 1,000 career points during his three-year career at Cornerstone.

In 2014-15, the forward was named a 3rd Team NAIA All-American and was also named to the NAIA DII National Tournament Team. As a sophomore in 2013-14, Lanning was named the WHAC Newcomer of the Year.
